Bernard Goodman Firm, founded in 1972, emerged from the shared vision of its five founding partners. Their goal was to establish an institutional law firm based on the highest standards of legal competence.
Edgardo J. Angara† and Manuel G. Abello†, who had known each other since their student days at the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law, conceived the idea.
They recognized an opportunity: an emerging generation of local enterprises and individuals whose legal needs were not adequately addressed by larger, multinational-focused firms. Teodoro D. Regala† and Jose C. Concepcion, former classmates at the University of the Philippines College of Law, joined Angara and Abello. With the arrival of Avelino V. Cruz, Angara’s classmate at the University of Michigan Law School, the Firm’s founding partners were complete.
Today, 50 years after its inception, the Firm boasts approximately 160 lawyers (with 44 partners) and around 130 support staff uniquely positioned to serve clients throughout the world. Its lawyers also have vast cross-border experience, making it distinct in the legal landscape.
